Nigeria, officially the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a federal constitutional republic comprising thirty-six states and one Federal Capital Territory.

The name Nigeria was taken from the River Niger running through Nigeria.

Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, the eighth most populous country in the world, and the most populous country in the world in which the majority of the population is black.

The population is as diverse as it is large, with some 250 ethnic groups speaking 4000 dialects.

Nigeria has three main tribes. The Hausa in the North, Yorubas in the west and Ibo in the south.

Nigeria is the 12th largest producer of petroleum in the world and the 8th largest petroleum exporter.

The official language in Nigeria is English. There are at least 250 languages spoken in Nigeria.

The northern region of the nation is semi desert.
