I’m certain that you like turkey meat too, especially that big, roasted one from every Thanksgiving. But I think it’s our duty to know a thing or two about this bird and it’s the least we can do.
Did you know that turkeys can adapt to almost any kind of habitat? But most of them preffer living in grassy forests.
The majority of turkeys have heart attacks. So, it’s probably not wise to live near an airport and love turkeys, in the same time.
I bet you didn’t know that when it’s raining, a turkey can drown if he looks at the sky.
Turkeys sleep just like us, after dusk. They also eat in the morning, and after that, in mid-afternoon. But, unlike humans, they start gobbling soon after.
The wild turkey has an astounding eyesite, managing to have a 280 degree view. It is very fast, too, running with speeds over 20 miles per hour. And in case it’s attacked, it can burst with 50-60 miles per hour, before the predator can get what just happened.
As i said, almost certain, each and every one of us eats a turkey dinner when Thanksgiving comes. Statistics show that more than 45 million turkeys are roasted in that period of the year. That means more than 600 million pounds of meat in jut an evening.
Maybe that’s why Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the national bird of the US.
